girl stuff

This is such a silly post but sometimes a girl just has to have fun! I usually run around barefoot and in a state of dishabille (French for not pretty/dressing carelessly, circa 1673). But next month, once in Denver, I get to dress up. When I heard the banquet is to be served by waiters in white gloves, I decided my best church dress might not do.

So I went online and ordered this outfit from Penney's which was, glory be, on sale! I'm no photographer so these pitiful pictures don't do the elegant embroidery justice or show off the shine on those 3-inch high heeled shoes. But you get the idea:) The color of the jacket is "gunmetal" which reminds me of colonial days for some reason.

Imagine this in any other color and I would hide under the table. A subtle grey suits me just fine. The black skirt is ankle-length organza. Randy advises me to practice walking in those shoes.

So in just 28 days I'm off to the American Christian Fiction Writer's Conference for the first time ever and I'm taking you with me via my laptop:) Tucked inside my Kentucky tote!

One of the most tragic things I know about human nature is that all of us tend to put off living. We are all dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon - instead of enjoying the roses that bloom outside our windows today. -Dale Carnegie

  1. if you are anything like me, which i think you are (maybe a little), you better take Randy's advice!! Holy moly, i can't hardly do 1 inch heels!!

i put shoes on today for about 1 hour while the kids and i took our evening walk. my feet are so tough and dirty from being barefoot all the time. not very pretty or feminine!
last month, my best friend and i went and got pedicures (my first time!) and i'm tellin ya, i could get used to that treatment! how did i get on that subject... sorry.

lovely outfit.. i'm sure you will be absolutely beautiful for the conference!

  3. Laura - what a beautiful outfit. I am sure that you will look stunning and the heels will add to the outfit. High heels complete an outfit, but they can be hard on the feet especially after standing for a few hours. (smile)
We look forward to seeing pictures and hearing all about this wonderful event. May you have a very blessed day.

  4. Lisa,
Glad to know I'm not the only barefoot gal around! And I can't think of a better candidate for a pedicure than a mom of 4:) I hear they're so very nice!

  5. Thanks, Keli,
I love to dress up but here in the northwest everything is very casual, even church wear. So it is extra special to get to look forward to something a little different. Just hope I don't keel over in those heels:)

  6. Bless you, Sheryl!
I'm glad we will be mostly sitting down at that banquet after trying out those heels:) It will be fun to post some from the conference as I hear Denver is a beautiful city and it's been many years since I was last there.
Thinking of you today and hoping you have some NJ sunshine!

  7. Hey Laura!
Love the outfit! You will look so classy and elegant! Be careful in those shoes and don't sprain an ankle like me, ha. I am always barefoot it seems as well unless at work of course. I hope the conference is alot of fun for you...it will be something out of the norm and a good getaway for you. :)

  8. Rhonda,
Wonderful to hear from you:) Yes, this will be very out of the norm for me! I haven't been to Denver since Aunt Judy lived there! Wish you were coming with:) What a duo we'd make, frappacinos all the way!

  9. What a gorgeous outfit. You will look like a princess!

It's nice to know I'm not the only one who's more accustomed to bare feet, tee shirts, and denim!

I'm so glad we get to go along on your trip with you to ACFW! I look forward to reading all about it.

  10. Pretty--I love gray. Wear your hair up with a few loose tendrils. Add a pair of long, sparkly silver earrings--even better with a few delicate crystals. Very nice!

I do feel a little like Cinderella going to the ball:) And it's really nice because I get to share it here with you while there!

  12. Virginia,
You just answered my unspoken ruminations about jewelry or not and hair up or not:)Thanks very much! I'll be looking for the silvery-sparkly type as that sounds like a perfect fit. Bless you for chiming in. I sure love reading these comments!

  15. I'm so glad I get to go with you!!! lol It will be GREAT to get to see what goes on there!

I was planning on going this year but ended up not being able to...I'm counting on next year though...

You will look fabulous! I love the heels, but I WOULD need a pedicure before I could wear them, my feet are are very unfeminine from being barefoot constantly, or at the very most, in flip flops.

    Enjoy your trip!
