celebrating covers...and friends
I think the next best thing to seeing your own book cover for the first time is seeing that of a friend. In this case, three friends! I've been waiting and wondering when they'd be posted and today was the day. So I thought I'd share them with you. One of the best parts of the writing journey is making writing friends. And showcasing Revell's amazing art team.
I met Sarah at ACFW in Denver last year and we attended a workshop together. She's a pharmacist and author - interesting combo! When I met her I told her she looks just like Sissy Spacek (an actress). She said she's heard that before:) Her passion is WWII. She knows a great deal about bombers and soldiers and rations and things I don't. And she's getting great reviews. Her first novel, A Distant Melody, debuts March 1. She lives in California and is a busy wife and mom.
Lorna called me yesterday to chat and start making plans for a retreat we'll both be attending in October. I snagged her as a roomie right away as she's so much fun. I met her in Denver, too. I've heard through the grapevine that she writes very witty, highly entertaining books. She's a former English teacher and lives in Iowa which is the setting for her lake series. Making Waves debuts September 1st and I can't wait!
Last but not least is Julie Lessman. Her cover girl reminds me of Julie herself. Sassy and chic, but sweet! Plus she has a huge gift for making friends. She reached out to me, a newbie, and has been such an encouragement. Publishing can be a bewildering, lonesome place at times and Julie has been there for me. This will be her fourth novel for Revell and it's releasing this fall. I call her the Queen of Romance and her other covers (and the pages in between) are just as captivating:)
At the risk of gushing, I'll let these authors and their covers speak for themselves!
Happy reading:)

They are beautiful covers!
ReplyDeleteBTW, Thank you for your comment on my blog, Laura!!!
Equestrian life and preparing for renovation work is going well, but unfortunately that's not leaving much time for reading and writing. I'm thinking God's calling a sabbatical for my writing for now. I'm at peace with that while I stay connected through critiques and reading when I can.
How is everything going for you? My email addy is eileenastels[at]rogers[dot]com. When you leave a comment it doesn't allow me to reply directly to your email unfortunately.
Eileen, So good to hear from you! I've saved your email for future:) I really understand God ordained sabbaticals - mine lasted five years. Looking back I treasure the time and I wouldn't have it any other way.
ReplyDeleteOh, I covet your renovations! That is always my idea of fun as I am a redecorator at heart. Things are gong well here, just busy, like you. Are you going to be at the ACFW conference this year by any chance? I have good memories of our shuttle ride:) Bless you.
Ooooh, I like all three covers. But being that I'm a writer of historical fiction... the book, "A Memory Between Us" really grabbed me and makes me want to read it. Now to get moved and settled in. Once that's done... I know of a couple of good books I want to get. Thanks for the heads up!!
ReplyDeleteWords cannot describe how much I love the cover for Sarah Sundin's book. Absolutely FABULOUS! Looking forward to Julie's book as well - I like the new design scheme Revell is going with for her covers.
ReplyDeleteThey're all beautiful! Love that middle one. I love a good book cover...I wrote a story for a writing class in college and photoshopped my own cover. I'm sure that helped me get a good grade!
ReplyDeleteYour blog always makes me want to take up writing again!
They all look great, Laura, each with a very unique flavor of their own. Thanks for the introduction to each of these books. Revell sure does a great job. Sarah's book looks like it's my kind of read.
ReplyDeleteLaura - you're the sweetest thing. Thanks so much for posting my cover. I feel like I'm in the "In" sorority being included with Lorna & Julie. Can't wait for BOTH of those books - as well as Courting Morrow Little!
ReplyDeletegreat covers! I'm immediately drawn to Sarah's cover. Looks romantic.
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing them. I'll be keeping my eye open for them.
Laura, you're such a sweetie! Thank you for posting my cover. I love Sarah's and Julie's, too. I love how the covers capture the flavor of the books. Still, think Courting Morrow Little is the Queen of beautiful covers. That dress is to die for.
ReplyDeleteThose beautiful covers are all important, aren't they? All three seem to tell a story in themselves.
ReplyDeleteIt is so much fun celebrating with our friends in their successes. I don't think there's a greater joy than sharing victory with a friend.
Thank you all for stopping by and taking a look:) It's amazing to me that the covers are all so different yet so true to the heart of each book. The colors are incredible. As for me, I think everything about Sarah's just invites you to jump in - that cobblestone walk and quaint village in the background, the man and woman walking together, the sepia tones, etc. It is just like Ruth said - fabulous! I love the expression on the cover girl's face for Making Waves. Wish I had that hat and dress! Since I worked at a lake several summers myself this series really appeals to me. As for Julie's, it is just what I thought it should look like:) I doubt there is another cover out there like it!
ReplyDeleteAnd Sarah, it's such a joy to post your cover. I just love, love, love it!
Oh yay! Brenda and Lorna chiming in:) It really is a joy to share friend's successes, Brenda. So much goes into a book before it reaches the cover stage and then when the art team gets the cover just right it's an extra (huge) blessing. I know you Inkspy's are celebrating, too!
ReplyDeleteLorna, thanks so much for your comments about Morrow's cover. It really is the cover of my heart. If we could only find out who our cover girls are! To think they're out there walking around somewhere, just not in period clothing...
Bless you all today!
I love them! I know you're not supposed to judge books by their covers, but these all look fantastic!! how cool!
ReplyDeleteKristen, I knew, as a writer, you'd like these:) I bet you have your own cover in mind! And I hope you have some extra reading time while you recuperate. I'm thinking of you and praying for you!
ReplyDeleteThey are all terrific covers! I've read A Distant Melody earlier this week and absolutely loved it so I'm looking forward to her next one! I haven't read anything by Lorna yet so I can't wait for her book and Julie is one of my all-time favorite authors so I definitely can't wait to read her book! Wheewww there are sooo many good books coming out this year! I can't wait! But before I read any of those ones I hope to read Courting Morrow Little! ;-)
ReplyDeleteXOXO~ Renee
Renee, So good to see you over here:) I know you are a huge Julie fan, as I am! I think cover art is so fun and interesting. Lots of good reads for our TBR stacks! I know yours is toppling like mine. I'm really anxious to read A Distant Melody so you are one step ahead of me:) Bless you today!
ReplyDeleteLovely (and lively) covers, all three, though I'm particularly drawn to Sarah's. It sets a mood I find inviting, probably because the models are smaller, allowing room for setting. It's an attractively balanced design. Thanks for spotlighting these new books. I just wish I could read a little faster.
ReplyDeleteLori, Sarah must be dancing over this one:) Her last one was very nice but this just works for me on every level. Being a nature lover, I'm always drawn to the background setting, too.
ReplyDeleteInteresting to see how cover trends change. I think the publishing houses like to compete:)
Nice covers.
ReplyDeleteRevell outdid themselves. Congrats to your writer friends. I can't wait to check out some these books.
Britt, So glad you took a peek. I bet you are dreaming about your own and I'd love to hear about it. Maybe an idea for a post in future. Yours are always so creative! I have my own ideas about a Cora cover. There MUST be mountains in the background...
ReplyDeleteLaura!!! I didn't even know you posted this until today -- thank you!! And thanks for your kind comments ... you already KNOW what I think of you and your writing, girl -- some of the best out there!
ReplyDeleteI think ALL of the covers are gorgeous, and I cannot wait to get all of these books in hand.
Hugs,
Julie
Julie, It's such a privilege to post your cover - I didn't want to overwhelm you with any extra email so was glad to mention it on Pepper's blog:) I think your cover girl this time looks like you! Fun that I had you, Lorna, and Sarah chime in here. A sorority, indeed! Bless you, dear friend. Can't wait till next Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteHi Laura -
ReplyDeleteThanks for the heads up on Julie Lessman's new book. I've read her first three, and can't wait for the next one.
Blessings,
Susan :)
Susan, Glad to know you are a Julie fan, too:) I've heard she's even working on a Christmas novella so hope we have that in our hands this holiday season.
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking of you as you've had an eventful week! Praying things are well with you and you have a restful weekend.
I don't know where the last week went, but I certainly didn't spend it at your blog -- I'm way behind and have a lot of catching up to do.
ReplyDeleteLove the looks of all three books. It's getting to the point where I can tell a Revell book by it's cover now and that's a good thing since I know they strive for excellence as evidenced by their authors!
Kav, Soooo glad you're back! I've reallly missed you, my friend, and have thought of you numerous times. Glad you like the look of these fine covers. I know you're busting your buttons that Lorna's is so well done:)
