kentucky tote

I just had to take a picture of my Kentucky tote as I think it really is a work of art. I found it in the February issue of Kentucky Monthly magazine:) It appeals to me because it has so many places dear to my heart. Check out the guy in the coonskin cap! Should be fur felt, per Mr. Boone! See Mammoth Cave on the left? I spent the first 5 or so years of my life there. Not in the cave but in a little house close to it. Of course there's Churchill Downs and all the other landmarks. Makes me sort of homesick!

I've decided to not try for the Kentucky Book Fair this year. I'd love to go but felt a little nudge telling me not to. With one book coming out and another due, I won't have time for trips. I do have to return next year as I have a second date with George Rogers Clark at Locust Grove and must also mosey up the Ohio River to Fort Steuben for some research. So much to do, see, read, write - and so little time!

So this time next year, Lord willing, I'll just grab my Kentucky tote and go!

  1. I LOVE this tote! I'll have to try and find one for myself. I'm sorry you won't be here for the Kentucky Book Fair - it should be a great event!!

There will be a KY Writer's Day next Friday (April 24th) to induct Gurney Norman as our new Poet Laurate.

  2. Hi Bobbi!
Hope you get a tote - I know they are selling them around the state. I sure hope to come to KBF next year and maybe I'll get to meet you! I know there's another book fair going on this weekend back there and wish I could come. I'm certainly living on the wrong side of the states. I'll have to check out Gurney Norman - quite a poetic name! Enjoy Writer's Day as you are one!

  4. How funny, Lisa! I just left a message on your blog! Yes, I think the totes are available for every state (but not sure). I am using mine for my laptop on trips. It was my one business expense as I usually am in frugal mode. But they make something you might like even better - embroidered state aprons!! Since you are such a great cook, I can see you wearing one of those! Catstudio is the place.

  5. Hmmm. I am thinking that maybe one of the Catstudio.com aprons might make a good reader giveaway in future. Just posting this as a reminder to self!

  7. Hey bro,
No, you're irreplaceable! How is that Spanish internet? Not dial-up, I pray:( I am terribly homesick, if you can't tell by the tote. And no Kentucky trip in sight. Miss you.

  8. Too bad about the Kentucky Book Fair this year, but maybe you can make the trip next year with two books. Twice the fun. Still, I was looking forward to meeting you in person. And that bit with the 16 Fridays till publication day is making me very nervous. I've got a deadline to meet before that and I don't have nearly enough words piled up yet. As always enjoyed your imagination entries. I'm the have to write writer.

  9. Ann, You are such an accomplished writer I don't worry at all that you'll make that deadline. I was a bit aghast that Stephen King said he writes a book in 3 months! Karen Kingsbury said she writes a book in two weeks! Sigh. I was really looking forward to meeting you also at the book fair. Next year, Lord willing, and we'll be holding those stubborn books in our hands:) Thanks for taking time to read here. It means a lot to me!

Love that tote! Too cute! Wonder if there is one for SC.....will have to check and see since that is my home state. Hope you have a great women's retreat this weekend and a nice birthday too......let me know how it all goes when you get back. :)

  11. Hi Laura, I just wanted to let you know that when you post something and don't give it a title, I can't view it. I'm not sure why, or if it's just my computer. Is anybody else having this problem?

  12. Hi Lisa,
Thanks for bringing this up! I've also heard from readers that they can't reply using the comments section for some reason. I will ask my brother as he is so savvy about these things (I am not!). I'll try to contact Blogger also. Will let you know what I find out:)

  13. Hi Rhonda,
I'm almost out the door to Oregon and am taking my birthday gift from you last year - that wonderful lime green tote with my name on it:) It's perfect for short trips. Holds a great deal, too!
I'm thinking of you as you go to Aikin. Wish I could house-hunt with you:)

  14. Sorry you won't be doing the book fair, but I understand. We'll look forward to seeing you there next year. Totally unrelated...before moving here, I lived more years than I want to mention less than 20 miles from Mammoth Cave. Made many a trip through the cavern as a child. Small world indeed.

  15. Hi Gin,
My dad was manager of the concessions at Mammoth Cave back in the 60's before we moved to Bowling Green, then Lexington. You probably remember the big old white hotel - it was beautiful but it burned some time ago. A great place to grow up! I'd thought of doing a novel about the cave but it's already been done by another CBA writer. Yes, next year for the book fair! I'm looking forward to meeting you, Jim, and Silas:)
