  3. Amanda, Love your enthusiasm and support for these giveways! It's such a blessing to share good books and I'm so thankful that I can mail them quite inexpensively. I think book giving is an absolute ministry! Especially Christian fiction! And of course, we'll lump North & South in there, too, as I do remember Johnny asking his mother to pray:) Stay tuned as I hope to give away a copy of that wonderful movie AND the book soon.

  5. Did you start the book yet, Laura? I'll be curious to hear what you think as you read although I think I may have read it in those hazy nursing hours so we'll see how much I remember.

    Have a great Friday, everyone!

  7. Amber, I was so tickled when I stopped by your blog and saw that you were reading this:) You're a sweetheart for spreading the word about Lorna's wonderful writing. It's fun to make much ado about such a debut! Bless you!

  8. Julia, Oh, how I remember those hazy nursing days! I just rec'd the first copy of N&S yesterday:) But after ordering I realized I'd gotten the wrong version (there are several and not all are good ones). Some contain glaring typos and other problems. So I ordered a more expensive version with commentary and it's not here yet. But I am so anxious to start reading. I can already quote one beloved line that Rel quoted for me a few posts back and it makes my historical heart beat a little faster:)

"...He could not forget the touch of her arms around his neck, impatiently felt as it had been at the time; but now the recollection of her clinging defense of him, seemed to thrill him through and through - to melt away every resolution, all power of self-control, as if it were wax before a fire."

Oh my, to write like that!

  9. I love it. I must admit my favorite versions of the classics are the Penguin editions, I love footnotes ;)
