A man can no more take in a supply of grace for the future than he can eat enough for the next six months, or take sufficient air into his lungs at one time to sustain life for a week. We must draw upon God's boundless store of grace from day to day as we need it. ~D.L. Moody
Nothing can be more healthful to the soul of the believer than feeding upon the Word, and digesting it by frequent meditation. ~C.H. Spurgeon
Care to share a favorite quote with me and others here?
So very true. Thank you for the reminder. You always find the most wonderful quotes and beautiful pictures.
ReplyDeleteGoodness, these two quotes have been the theme of my week. I frequently have to remind myself:
ReplyDeleteThe faithful love of the LORD never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning(Lam. 3:22-23).
“It is for us to pray not for tasks equal to our powers, but for powers equal to our tasks, to go forward with a great desire forever beating at the door of our hearts as we travel toward our distant goal.”-Helen Keller
ReplyDeleteOne of the twitter accounts I follow sends out C.S. Lewis quotes, here are some of my favorites:
ReplyDeleteWhen we Christians behave badly, or fail to behave well, we are making Christianity unbelievable to the outside world.
If I have a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the explanation is-I was made for another world
Either Jesus is the Son of God; or a madman or worse. But His being just a great teacher? He's not left that open to us
In the Christian story God descends to reascend. He goes down to come up again & bring the whole ruined world up with Him
It is since Christians have largely ceased to think of the other world that we have become so ineffective in this one.
Oh, I meant to say I love both of your quotes. Wonderful reminders!
ReplyDeleteJulia and Michelle, I love your quotes, too! That was a bonus!
ReplyDeleteCarla,
ReplyDeleteAren't these pewter dishes beautiful? You sure bless me, Carla, with your comments. I just read at your blog that you're tying up your novel and submitting. Prayers with you all the way!
Adrienne,
ReplyDeleteYou've named one of my all time favorite verses:) Glad the quotes here resonated with you. I posted them as a reminder to me that He really is my daily bread.
Julia,
ReplyDeleteHelen Keller was so wise! I think I've read every bio on her ever written! I bet she's a favorite of yours, too.
Awesome, Michelle! I could feast on these for a month! Am going to write them down now...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quotes, Laura! Thank you so very much for sharing them with us. You know how much I love adding to my collection and you are always a such a fabulous resource :)
ReplyDelete:D Now, a favorite quote? Me?? Well, there are MANY, but here are 3 good ones that instantly came to mind...
"Your emptiness is but the preparation for your being filled, and your casting down is but the making ready for your lifting up." ~Charles Spurgeon
"You were made perfectly to be loved - and surely I have loved you, in the idea of you my whole life long." ~Elizabeth Barrett Browning
"Be courteous to all, but intimate with few, and let those few be well tried before you give them your confidence." ~George Washington
Thought you might like seeing George here ;)
Blessings,
Amanda Stanley
I love your Spurgeon quote, Amanda. And I wanted to add a quote I liked from today's reading:
ReplyDeleteThe holy God desires to have you entirely for Himself. No one, nothing, may any longer have the least right over you, nor have you any right over yourself. God has separated you unto himself, and so that you might feel this, He set His mark upon you. This mark is the most wonderful thing that is to be found on earth or in heaven-the blood of Jesus.-Andrew Murray
When you feel you are reaching the end...go back to the beginning.
ReplyDeleteFOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD THAT HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, THAT WHOSOEVER BELIVETH IN HIM SHOULD NOT PERISH BUT HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE.
John 3:16
Julia, I absolutely love your quote! I felt such a peace settle over me after reading it. Thank you so much for sharing it with us here. And, it will be a beautiful addition to my collection :D
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Amanda Stanley
Amanda, I LOVE the George quote!! Bless you so very much for that! I use several like it in TCL, so be prepared:) Wish I'd used yours!
ReplyDeleteI love Spurgeon and am so pleased to see Elizabeth BB here:) Wish I had the brain cells to commit these to memory. When I was younger...alas.
Will write these keepers down:)
Julia,
ReplyDeleteAndrew Murray is simply awesome. I read the book you gave me and it gives me chills sometimes. He was so wise and godly. May we all grow to be like him ~ and HIM.
Dear Virginia,
ReplyDeleteThere was never such a verse as this ~ the entire gospel in 25 words! I use this in the first book of my new series as I have a character that is a new believer and has never read the Bible. Kind of interesting to write from that perspective.
Bless you so much!
Hi, Laura! When I saw the bible verse that used in my previous comment, I was so struck by the words that I didn't realize that "believeth" was spelled incorrectly. I copied and pasted the text, and didn't see the misspelling. However, taking a second look, I realize that I need to remember the word "believeth". Sometimes in this world, we must take a leap of faith, and "belief" is all that we have!
