more books for you

I can't think of a better way to end a week that to tell you about more books. If you have a minute please hop over to Janna Ryan's great book blog and check out her top ten list for historical fiction in 2009. In celebration of that list, Janna and some authors are giving away some wonderful books. If you leave a comment you'll be entered in the drawing which doesn't end till January 24th. I haven't read all the books on Janna's list but they look so interesting and I wanted to tell you.

  1. Thanks for the link, I love a good historical novel ( of course!) I think the top of my list for 2009 is the book "Emily's Ghost" which is a fictional account of Emily Bronte's life. It was just so beautiful...and I even cried! Highly recommend. Now off to see these other great books...

  3. Good morning, Laura!
I went over and checked out Janna's list. She has some books there that sound great. I'll have read them!

I saw in the comment section that people are commenting on your book. That is so great! I bet it makes your heart swell with happiness that readers are enjoying something that you've put so much time, thought and prayer into.

  4. I think you'll love it--- Emily is very strong, very opinionated and passionate, loves animals...sounds vaguely familiar, right? ;)
I was just reading this site and instantly though it might be up your alley as well:

  5. As someone who doesn't typically read historicals, I found (2) books on the list I've actually read, both of which I highly endorse for any reader: "The Frontiersman's Daughter," of course, and Susan Meissner's "The Shape of Mercy." "Mercy" is a novel that truly makes you think, & like "Daughter," it's filled with beautiful narrative that transports the reader back in time, and does it with authenticity.

  6. Brenda, I'm always touched by your comments about my book. And it's a privelege to even be mentioned in the same sentence with Susan Meissner. I read The Shape of Mercy last summer, though I don't often read contemp. fiction, and heartily agree with your assessment. She has such beautiful prose and I was very drawn to Mercy and the old diary entries. In fact I found myself wishing we could just stay in that century:) No surprise there! I look foward to keeping up with your blog as you've already introduced me to some authors/books that are completely new to me.

  8. Lisa, You really understand what it's like to have worked over something for so long and find people who care enough to talk about it. Like you! Bless you for saying such gracious things - words really are sweeter than a honeycomb and bring life to the bones, as Scripture says! You are a precious friend.

  10. Kav, I so envy you working in a library! That's the next best stop to heaven if you ask me:) Thanks for checking out the link. Golden Keys Parson looks so interesting an author, party because of her name, I think:)

  11. Congratulations, Laura, on taking the #4 spot on Cornhusker Academy's Best Historicals of 2009 list. The Frontiersman's Daughter would be on mine if I created a similar list, that's for sure.

  12. Thanks so much, Keli! It's such a thrill when something like this pops up. I met Janna in Denver as she manned the bookstore during the conference and we had a fun time when I finally realized she was one of my favorite reviewers and she realized I was the author of the book she'd just read:)

I'm so excited about all God has in store for you - you'll soon be finding out these wonderful things firsthand for yourself!
