I think courtship is so very important, even between the pages of a novel. It's critical not to rush things of the heart. Here's a quote I love from the 18th-century author of Tristam Shandy (remember Colonel McLinn recommending this book to Roxanna and her raised brows?) - well, Laurence Sterne wrote, "Courtship consists in a number of quiet attentions, not so pointed as to alarm, nor so vague as not to be understood."
